Human food you can feed your dog can be a healthy and safe treat for our dogs. My dog is more interested in my food than her own food. Whenever I try to eat something, she always looks at me with her puppy dog eyes.

Most of the time, I feel so bad and guilty for not sharing my food with her. I always assumed that every human food is somewhere harmful to dogs.

Though sometimes I would give her small pieces of what I am eating. But not all human foods are good for dogs. Some are beneficial while some can cause serious harm to dogs health. Most of the safest foods that dogs can eat are always present in your kitchen.

Broccoli

Broccoli is one of the safest human food you can feed your dog. It is best to give them broccoli in moderation. It contains vitamins, fibers, and is packed with antioxidants. It is also great for dogs with Arthritis and some dogs with allergies. It is low in calories which makes it a healthy snack.

But having too much broccoli can also cause gas in dog’s stomach. You can feed it either raw or cooked but in moderation. We feed our dog cooked because it’s easy to digest and prevents the risk of choking. For a small dog about 10-20 pounds 1-2 tablespoons is suitable. You can increase the quantity for big dogs as per their weight.

Carrot

Carrots are perfect for teeth cleaning. However, giving a whole carrot could be risky as it could choke the dog. A small pieces which are semi-boiled (a little soft) is suitable to feed. You can also give raw carrots but make sure to cut it in pieces and rinse it well.

Carrots are good for the eyes as well. It contains vitamins, minerals, fibers and antioxidants. Many dog owners also give carrots to their pet as a chewy to satisfy their teething. It also boosts immune function. Carrots should also be fed in moderation. You can give half a carrot to a dog of about 30-40 pounds.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin helps to treat diarrhea and constipation in just a day or two. Pumpkins loosens up hard stool and tightens up loose stool. It is because pumpkins have both soluble and insoluble fiber. You can incorporate 2-3 tablespoons of pumpkin in your dogs meal. It contains vitamin A, C, and E and minerals.

Natural pumpkin is a human food you can feed your dog but pie filling pumpkin is something you can’t feed your dogs. Make sure to feed them either natural boiled pumpkin or canned pumpkin. It is low in calories but high in fiber and water. You can feed it to overweight dogs in moderation to control their weight.

Greek yogurt

It is a great source of protein in dogs. Same like other foods, it should be given in moderation. Do consult with your vet to confirm whether your dog is allergic to dairy or not. You can also give a little yogurt at first and see if it causes any problem or not. It consists of probiotics.

You can feed 1-2 teaspoons of yogurt to a 10-15 pound dog. If your dog doesn’t enjoy plain yogurt then you can also freeze the yogurt and give them. Frozen yogurt acts as a treat for our dogs. Don’t feed large quantity of yogurt as it can upset your dogs stomach.

Green Beans

Green Beans are powerful human food you can feed your dog. It contains fiber, vitamin K and C. It is low in sodium and cholesterol meaning it is good for the heart and maintaining blood pressure. Always feed plain boiled green beans and never feed them salted, cooked in oil and butter.

If you are using canned beans make sure it’s unsalted. Whole beans can create a risk of choking in dogs. So cut them in a smaller size. Feed 1 bean to a dog 10-15 pounds, 2 beans to 15-30 pounds and simultaneously increase the quantity as per your dogs body weight. Eating excessive beans can cause digestion problems.
